Americus GA KOA at Brickyard Plantation & RV Trouble

After we saw Horseshoe Bend National Military Park, we continued our journey on June 18th and stopped at the Americus KOA at Brickyard Plantation.  This KOA in America, Georgia has the sites were very large and roomy with A LOT of space between sites.  All the sites were on grass which made it feel luxurious instead of gravel.  Of course, the only drawback for this time of the year was...the bugs!  Mosquitoes and buggy bugs were everywhere!  That part was not too fun.  The weather was 98 degrees with the southern humidity when we came...so besides the bugs it was really hot!  We easily rated this park a 4/5 for the location and amenities.  We decided to stay at this location because it was right between Jimmy Carter's Birthplace and Andersonville Military Prison that I wanted to see.
Amenities include:

  • All Pull Thu Sites
  • Grass pads with Full Hookups
  • Tent Camping
  • Wifi at the Hayes House
  • Row C had Shade Trees
  • Picnic Table
  • Pet Area
  • Kids Playground
  • Nature Trails
  • Golf Course and Pro Shop
  • Disc Golf
  • Foot Golf
  • Ball Golf
  • Lake
  • Paddleboats
  • Extra Parking Lot
  • Fitness Room
  • Laundry
  • Very nice bathrooms
We stayed in site A10.  I perfect site right next to the bathroom, laundry, Hayes House and Firepit.
The cost was $44 per night but we belong to the KOA club so we paid $39.60.  They also have Veteran Discounts.  The nice thing about this park is that the golfing is free as well as paddleboats and all amenities.  Here are a few photos of this location:

We were supposed to leave Americus on June 20th, but we ended up having some RV trouble.  Our black tank had fallen and was sitting on our axles, so we had to hire someone to come out and raise the black tank, repair everything and that took another day, so we just enjoyed the area and relaxed.  It threw us off our schedule but we adjusted and got back on track.
I felt bad for the guy who came out at 11 am and left at 4 pm under our rig.  All the BUGS that must have been eating him alive and the heat was terrible!  But, we made a pretty penny from us.  We found out that one of the axles in not on squarely and that's why one of our tired is wearing fast.  So, we've decided to put disc brakes on the trailer, have the axle reinstalled properly in Indiana and we've had to buy 2 tires to get us there safely.  This won't happen for about 2-3 more weeks...so, in the meantime, we just have to spend the money to get there safely.
