Salt Lake City KOA - 5 Stars!

We left Logan on September 18th and headed south to Salt Lake City where we will be attending the doTERRA Convention that we attend every year.  Last year, we stayed at the Pony Express RV Resort and while there saw that the TRAX was right across the street from the Salt Lake City KOA, so after convention last year we booked the KOA for this year.  This year we mainly rode our bike from the Salt Lake City KOA to the convention center.  The nice thing about this location is that it is right across from the TRAX - the transportation rail that goes all over downtown and the entire Salt Lake Valley for 30 miles plus connectors from the Ogden and Provo areas downtown on the FrontRunner train meet right downtown.  Of course, the place was packed with doTERRA convention attendees.
The Salt Lake KOA is located at 1400 W North Temple and right down the street from the State Fair ParkSalt Lake Temple and Temple Square as well as all the downtown shops and 2 malls!

Here's the park map.  We were in 1128 where I've circled it in pink pencil below the dog park.
So, let me tell you about the amenities at this KOA.

  • Pull Through and Back In Sites (and a couple wheelchair accessible sites, too)
  • 5 Cabins
  • Tents
  • Concrete Pad
  • Full Hookups
  • Plentiful Shade Trees
  • Grass
  • Picnic Table
  • Wide Site
  • Night Watchman on Site
  • Clean Location
  • Dump Station
  • Bath House
  • Laundry
  • Pavillion
  • Wifi
  • Cable TV
  • Extra Parking
  • Pet Area
  • Dog Park
  • Car Wash
  • Pool and Hot Tub
  • Library
  • Nature Trails
  • Biking Trails
  • Shuttles to Attractions
  • Playground
  • Basketball Court
  • Campfire Areas

It was a bit expensive at $54.27 per night.  We had our KOA discount so that brought it down to $48.84 per night for a total of $293.06 for the 6 nights.  If we had gone to a hotel downtown (I usually do the Marriott) it would have been that price for just 1 night plus food and parking!  So, this was a great deal and still close to all the action.  Here's the office.
The pool and hot tub is just behind the office.
There's a playground right by the pool area with basketball, corn hole, toss games and gym as well as a pavilion.
Anyone know what the name of this game is?  Leave a comment and win a prize!
There is also a Media Center across from the office which is another name for the teen hangout room.  I like this space for the teens!
And, there are bathrooms and laundry as well behind the office.  They were cleaning the bathrooms but I'll show you the ones by us instead.
Another great feature is that there are two staging areas for arrivals and departures depending on which way you enter.  Generally, you have to come in on North Temple and stage next to the office but when you leave, since it's a one-way street, you exit and stage across from the office.
Enter Staging - Behind this Class C is North Temple, but it's got the TRAX in the middle so it's basically the way in.
Exit Staging (Unless you come in from a back road).  North Temple is exit to the left and then right to the freeway.
Also, there is a big car and rig wash area - not part of the KOA - but convenient all the same.  We couldn't wash our rig - we're too tall, but travel trailers and Class C and maybe Class A's could.
The bad thing about this stay was that we weren't allowed to put up our dog fences so the poochies had to stay inside all day until we took them to the dog park which was just 3 units from our spot (although we did see one rig with a fence).  We hand picked this spot just for this option.  The dog park had artificial turf - not sure how it will be with urine smells, but we didn't notice anything.  Maybe they use some sort of sanitizer for it.  The temps were warm in the 80s - the hottest temps we had all summer and I miss the cool 70's on the Great Lakes.  The desert really made it feel warmer, too.  So, it was probably good they could just stay in the air conditioned rig.
The dog park is just beside our rig by that building.
The KOA also had access to the Jordan River Parkway bike path and nature trails that go for miles.  We didn't use it because we were busy at convention but got our biking in going back and forth 16 blocks to the Vivint Arena.

Let's see.  OH!  This park also has sites for small units and tent camping as well as 5 air conditioned cabins.
Here are pics of the bathrooms near us.  It's next to the dog park and cabins so very convenient to us.  I loved the paved sitting area.  It was very pretty.
The cabin on the right is a two story for big families!
OK.  Now for a few photos of our site.
The sites just fit our 40' rig.  Next time we'll pull up another foot so we fit all the way.
Lot's a room to ourselves.
Nice, Shady Site - No Satellite but I'm OK with that.
A view looking down toward the office and North Temple
And, a couple photos of other sites.
This place is even big enough for some gooooood long walks with or without the dog!  Or, for riding your bike.
Our rig is just behind me to the left.
We had a GREAT dinner Friday (Sept 21st) with Jane and Jay Rasmussen.  Jane was my old best buddy when we were little teenie boppers and have stayed in contact through the years.  They just bought their own travel trailer this past week so they can take their grandkids on adventures, too.  As we welcome to the road present, we gave them a $200 serge protector for their new rig.  Scott's dad gave us his brand new one, so we willed it to them.  Hope they have a lot of fun journeys on the road.
Overall, we had a great time here.  The amenities were plentiful for every member of the family.  The grass was a little dead, but they just endured a very smoky summer with fires everywhere and dry, hot temps.  Scott gave them a 4 star and I'm at a 5 star.  So, they did well on the star list...Bottom line, it's place to go if you want something close to downtown SLC and still feel like your camping.
