Kaibab Camper Village at Jacob Lake

We found ourself next at Kaibab Camper Village at Jacob Lake in Fredonia, Arizona for the next 2 nights in the Kaibab National Forest.  We got in about 11:30 a.m. even after seeing Pipe Spring National Monument.  Kaibab Camper Village is really high up in the mountains and surrounded by pines.  We even had to drive 1/2 mile on a dirt road to get to it.  So, it's nice and rustic camping.  Their map is just hand drawn and I tried to see the spots from Google Earth, but with the tree cover it was difficult.
We were given site 28, which was a nice pull through.  I had talked to the owner months ago to get us the right sport for our big rig.  I had read reviews that it is a tight campground and I didn't think it was that bad.  We were surrounded by 8 trees all around us and just barely could get our slides out.  The price was $45 per night with no discounts.  I think site 44, 45, and 46 were great long pull-thrus.  But, 28 or 27 worked just fine.  27 is an easy back-in also.
We really didn't explore this campground much because right after we unpacked, we head over to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and then the night we arrived it snowed, so photos will be very minimal.  But, this is the office building on the outside.  Scott said it was decent on the inside with a store.  Here's a YouTube video of the whole campground.
Amenities include:

  • Pull-Thru, Back-In and Tent Sites
  • 2 Cabins on Site
  • RV Dry Sites
  • Gravel Pads
  • Full Hookups with 30 amp only - but we had to conserve water because they pipe it in from the valley floor.
  • Shady Pine Trees Galore
  • Picnic Table
  • Fire Pit
  • Camp Store
  • Bath House that you PAY to use
  • Laundry Facility
  • Pet Area
  • Walking Areas
  • 40 minutes to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon
  • Jacob Lake State Park you can see from the campground
  • Hiking Trails
  • Large Field
  • Picnic Area

I would really suggest this campground when you are here during late July - late August when the summer temps are cooling down up on the mountain.  Because it was so high up and we were having remnants of Hurricane Rosa, it was downright chilly here!

As we were leaving, we saw the bathrooms and laundry building but never went inside.
We would probably give this place a 2 star.  The bathroom and laundry was so far away from the campsites, it was ridiculous!  Driving around the sites was adequate, but some sites were pretty tight.  When we got ready to leave, I was concerned on how I was going to get between the trees to exit our site.  All in all, now bad.  It's just rustic camping.
I had to drive straight to clear the boulder on the right;
then swing wide right and then a tight left to get through the group of trees to exit!
It was REALLY TIGHT!
