Our SUPER BUSY Week in Logan, Utah

We left Emmett, Idaho last Sunday, April 15th and got to Logan, Utah about 12:30 p.m.  Logan is home-base for us and we have had A LOT of things to do this week before we leave for Amsterdam, the Netherlands, this coming Monday.  We're staying at the Traveland RV Park Campground at 2020 South Hwy 89.
We're in A-6
We set up camp took a few photos.  The park is very small.  There are only 45 spaces, which makes it very neighborhood feeling.  We are in site A-6 with a great view of the east mountains.
This is the smallest park we have stayed at to date.  It is adjacent to the Comfort Inn and you enter through their entrances either on the north or south end.  While very small, there are male and female restrooms with two showers, four stalls and four sinks;
a laundry facility with two washers, two dryers, two chairs, a sink and magazines to pass the time.  The machines are quite old and could use an update as well as the decor and maybe a new paint job, but they did the trick and the cost was only $1.25 per wash and $1 per dry.
There is a large trash bin on the south end of the property next to H6.  There is also a small playground, basketball and volleyball plus a camping area west of the playground, and a pond and lots of extra parking.
Internet is strong.  There are no cable services - you need your own hookup for this.  The park also has ONLY pull-through sites and all are 50 amps.  There is very high water pressure, so be sure to have a water regulator.  Unfortunately, since this is off season, they are only in the office on Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 10 a.m. to noon but they are good about responding to phone messages.  We love that it's a smaller size, there's LOTS of grass and it's clean.  Our rating is a 4/5.
First thing we did after we set up was to go over to Scott's dad's place to fix his phone and Internet connections.  It seems like there is always an issue there regarding electronics.  All that was wrong was that the cables were plugged into the wrong receptacles so that wasn't too bad.  We visited for about 45 minutes and then headed over to Scott's mom's house for a light dinner.
Monday, was the start of all the appointments we had this week.  The first, and most important, was a nice long massage from my gal, Linda Perkes.  That was pure heaven!!  That afternoon, I had to take Roxy in for her shots and cold update at 3:30 p.m. at Cache Meadow Veterinary Clinic in North Logan, so now all the dogs are all up-to-date until January 2019 when Coco and Chanel need their next set of shots.  Then, I'll eventually get them all on the same month over the next couple years.

Monday night, our mover, Kyler (he owns The Helpful Movers in Logan and moved us back in December) came by the RV to say hello and he came bearing gifts...(1) a beautiful ceramic jar and lip that he made that looks amazing in the kitchen and (2) a new framed picture of the prophets that we're hanging in our bedroom.  Kyler is a cool young man and we think of him more as family than using his services.  If you click on his website, our house is on the front page and on other pages in the website.  If you ever need to move from Logan, Kyle is your guy!
Tuesday, April 17th was another busy day.  It started off with Scott taking off the tool bed from the truck and storing in at the storage unit.  Then, he took the truck over to Moonlight Diesel where we had a 100 gallon diesel tank put in it's place that is flush mount and won't stick up over the truck like the tool bed did.  That will be great when we're driving because we'll have 140 gallons of fuel and we can go about 1,200 miles before we need to refuel.  That will save time on the road.  At noon, I went over at noon to The Depot Salon in Logan to get my hair cut, nails done and arms sugared by Dana (the owner) and Rhonda (the nail tech).  Dana just opened her doors three weeks ago after being at the Rage.  I'm excited for her new venture. That was a nice treat for another day of pampering...it was long overdue!
That afternoon, I found myself in Dr. Brian Carlson's office for another ear check.  My ears are still hurting and have gotten considerably worse since heading to Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Utah.  I think it's something about the high elevation that bothers them.  I used to have Meniere's Disease before we left for California but soon after, it dissipated and I don't have it any more, but since we started traveling in the mountain states, I can feel my ears getting swollen or thicker.  After talking to Dr. Carlson we decided that the inner ear canal just doesn't do well in the mountain states and constricts itself, so I'm taking my diuretic again and Flucticasone spray to help with the pressure.  So far, so good.

Now, we have one car but it's all good because we had "couple" appointments for the next two days. Wednesday morning, I took Scott took the truck over to Heritage Motors to have our Ram 3500 Laramie checked for faulty wiring when we have the trailer in tow.  Whenever we hit a hard bump like a train track or grooved bridge, the "check wiring" light dings and doesn't stop, which drives us crazy.  He dropped it off at 10:00 a.m. and I picked him up at 10:30 a.m.  Before I picked him up I was feeling the need to go into my Bernina - Stylish Fabrics shop and decided to buy all the monthly packs and button collection for the Imagine wall hangings by Art to Heart.  It was great to see Annette, Marla and Judy (and Mike, the owner)!  This is my go-to shop!  I love it there!  While there I fell in love with this blue, white and pink quilt at the bottom.  It's so pretty!
By 2:00 p.m. we were at Dr. Jonathan Miles dentist office in Smithfield.  Jonathan's parents lived a couple doors down from us in Smithfield years ago (and we actually saw them later that night at the temple).  I had a little teeny cavity that needed filling so I had my teeth cleaned first and then got numbed up and worked on while Scott had his teeth cleaned.  I was NOT happy because I was told I only needed a tiny cavity filled from last cleaning.  Previously, we had done a crown re-do but they didn't have time for the tiny filling so I was mentally and emotionally prepared for that to be done, but when I got numbed up I found out there was a second crown that needed to be done AND the tiny cavity...and that's what they did.  It was a good thing because that part of my mouth was bothering me and when the crown came off, the tooth was in bad shape, so it got cleaned up and a new crown popped on.
We had just enough time to get home and change our clothes before we met Scott's parents at the Logan Temple at 5:00 p.m. for dinner and a session at 5:30 p.m.  Since I used to work in the temple, this was my old shift and so I saw all my old friends and that was special!  I sure miss them all.  That's probably the hardest part about about RVing full-time.
Thursday, we had our dermatology check appointments with Dr. Nathan Hanson.  He's a coolest doctor in Logan.  Really fun guy.  At any rate, Scott looked clean and I had a little growth on my chest and a tiny tag on my thigh.  He burned off the thigh and then since the one of my chest has been bugging me for 4 months, I asked him to cut that one out.  Good thing I did because when he put it under the microscope an hour later, it turned out to be cancer and he was able to cut the entire piece out.  Whew!  And, he froze off what was a little dry spot off my nose that was pre-cancerous so I have a little red nose but it's not bad.  Looks more like a small sunburn.

After the appointment, it was time to get the Ram 3500 and, of course, they couldn't fix the problem with the truck even though we know what's wrong because the simulator didn't pick it up.  HOWEVER, when I got in the truck, the new fuel tank meter filled half of the drivers window and since I'm the driver, I drove back over to Heritage Ram and told them they had to come up with Plan B because the box was right in my sight while driving.  So, we lowered it and also came up with an option to remove the suction cup that it is attached to and just put in a Command Strip on the side of the window, so easy fix.

Today, we also fixed Scott's mom's flag outside her house, put up some fencing and washed sheets.  Scott cut off 4 inches off our king bed and rounded the corners of our Turf and Needle mattress so the slides will close better.  We also took Scott's mom out for her post birthday dinner at LeNonne in Logan.  It's a very nice Italian place in a small old Victorian house at 1st South and 1st East.  The food is exceptional and mom and I shared both the specials of Sea Bass and Beef and Scott had chicken.  Plus we had an appetizer of Bruschetta, something with Carpaccio and Caprese skewers with the most potent and tasty balsamic while Scott had soup and then Scott and I had Creme Brulee and mom had a Triple Chocolate Mousse for dessert.  It was delicious!  The price tag was off the charts, but the meal was delicious.  Their tiny heirloom tomatoes were sweet and tangy.  So wonderful!
Friday we got tickets to Anne Frank House Museum in Amsterdam!  We tried earlier this week and they were completely sold out and I was devastated, but as I watched the tickets, I realized they released some every day so this morning I tried again and was able to get two tickets for 7 pm on the day we fly in.  YEAH!!  I also bought a Kindle Version of Anne's Franks book so I'll be reading that this weekend and on the plane.  The museum is only five blocks from our 4-star hotel.  It is also located next to the Westerkerk, where my 8th great-grandmother, Marie Lebeau is buried in 1785 on top of Rembandt's grave at age 108!  My 8th great-grandparents Daniel Levent and Marie Lebeau lived two streets from Anne Franks house on Rozenstaat and Laurierstaat when they met, dated and were married in 1697 at the Walloon church in Amsterdam.  I'm so excited to see all this history.  Scott's family is all from Holland, so this is fun and he went on his mission there from 1979-1981.

We also ran a few more errands to Big 5 for gloves and socks, Sam's Club for dog food, juices, and other drinks for the RV and Deseret Book in Logan where I got three more novels...II just have to hold a book in my hand and haven't done any relaxing reading for months.  Then, I washed half of our clothes for Holland and Scott just officially finished with work until we get home from the Netherlands, so it's nice he has a little break.  I also opened up Duolingo and brushed up on a little Dutch.  Scott knows Dutch and I know German, so it's easier to pick it up knowing the German.  We hung out tonight, watched two Hallmark movies and just relaxed while I sewed a binding on a new quilt I finished last fall that I'm now getting around to finishing before we put it back in storage.

Saturday was a gorgeous day!!  The temps are just about 70 degrees and feels so springy outside.  I even put on a short sleeve shirt in the afternoon!  Before lunch, I went to JoAnn's for some paint, brushes, Crylon, and yard to paint rocks.  Then, I bought a box to fit everything.  I'm going to be collecting rocks from all the places we go, then paint them with a local theme and then put them in other states with our blog business card and ask people to photograph them with the rock.  I thought it would be a fun thing to do.

I went to lunch with my old neighbor, friend and visiting teacher, Jan Theobald, at Herm's Inn in Logan just below the hill from where we used to live.  Herm's was an old gas station on Old Hwy 89 before the new larger road went in many, many years ago.  It's a VERY busy place and today was no exception.  We had a great time reconnecting.  She and her hubby, Scott will be retiring in the next couple of months and they are going to be doing a lot of traveling also.  They will certainly LOVE doing it!
Scott had lunch with his dad at Angie's Diner - "Where the Locals Eat" is their motto.  I guess now, his dad is thinking of buying a Class C RV.  My goodness.  He's always thinking up something! (Later he called to say he's too old to be traipsing around the country.  Smart man.)
Of  course, I couldn't stay away long from Bernina and I went back for some backing and binding fabric for the little monthly holiday quilts I'll be making for the rig and saw a little quilt I've been wanting to make called Washtub Garden by Kim Diehl that cost $45.59 but I get 20% off so it cost $38.88 with tax.  I only had $39.00 in my wallet, so I walked away with a whopping .12 cents to my name!  The kit is only 32.5" x 32.5" but there are a lot of yoyo's and it will be fun sitting outside somewhere making them.  It's a simple pattern but very pretty and will look nice in the RV on the kitchen table.

Saturday night, we took dad out to see Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One.  The plot: Set in 2045, the world is on the brink of chaos and collapse (yet again).  People have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the talented mind of James Halliday.  Halliday leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter Egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS after he dies by coming up with a contest that entices the world to search for the egg.  An unlikely hero named Wade Watts decided to join the contest, he find four friends who help him in the quest, confronts danger and an evil nemesis but comes out on top and saves the world.  It was a pretty fun movie and if you're a gamer, you'd really enjoy it.  I like the "rules" of the new OASIS at the end where in Tuesday and Thursday were non-gaming days so people would re-connect with the real world.  I especially loved the Avatars in the movie.  Here's the trailer.

Today was church.  It was Ward Conference and the Stake President noted that we were back in the ward today started off his talk with a "Baddley" joke.  Ahh.  It was fun and we loved seeing our Logan peeps.  President Lee even called to see if he offended us but we just laughed it off.

Laundry is done.  Now, all that is left is to take the dogs and my plants to Scott's mom and pack up tomorrow morning.  We'll leave at about 3:00 p.m. and ready to head to Salt Lake City for a light dinner with my old high school bestie, Jane Rasmussen and her hubby, Jay at the Lion House before we head to the the Salt Lake International Airport tomorrow evening for our red-eye flight to the Netherlands.  I can't wait to do all these things we have planned in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Zaansche Schwans, Giethoorn, The Hague and the TempleDelft, and Belgium.  Tulips, here we come!
I don't think I'll be blogging while we're gone...instead I'll be posting on Facebook and then will put together one large blog of our Holland trip similar to this post of our week in Logan.  Stay tuned...

  1. Holy cow Sue! You didn’t begin to tell me everything you had accomplished the week you were here. I hope your ears start feeling better. I wasn’t even aware of that problem. I hope you have a safe and successful adventure as you’re off again. It sure was wonderful to catch up with you.
