A Day at the Beach in Newport, Oregon

Last night Kyle drove into Oregon from Emmett, Idaho and originally we all planned on spending the day at the Enchanted Forest, however, they changed their hours a couple of days ago from every day of the week to just weekends so we had to act on Plan B - the afternoon at the beach in Newport, Oregon.
Kyle, Alyse, Lilly and S.J. along with Alyse's mom, Nancy and her two brother Drew and Brett were at Nye Beach when we got there about 1 p.m.  Lilly and S.J. were busy playing in the water with their galoshes and having a blast.
We were able to park right above Nye Beach and walk down the stairs to the sand.  We passed the coolest hand carved statue just before the stairs down to the beach.  Then, we crossed the rock path to the side of the beach they were on.
Roxy, Coco and Chanel were SO excited to go out and meet everyone and not be cooped up in the RV anymore.  They needed to let loose and run off their energy.
The girls were so excited to be with everyone and Lilly took charge of Coco and Chanel while I had Roxy and well, you can see, I got tied up in knots!  It took us a couple minutes to get me untangled.
Alyse wanted everyone to know she was "Queen Alyse of Nye Beach" while S.J. was back still playing in the inlet with his yellow galoshes.  Such a funny photo.
And, well, Lilly was "Princess of the Sand Castles".  I loved her galoshes!  And, don't you dig those purple glasses?!
So, since there wasn't anyone around and we had that beach to ourself, we decided to just let the girls run wild and free on the beach for an hour.  And, wow!  Did they have fun!...Until Chanel discovered that you have to run inland before the tide catches you...she wasn't fond of getting wet...neither were we!  As you can see, the tide was WAY out and there was a whole lot of beach to play on.
Kyle and Lilly went out clamming and Roxy pooped out so Drew picked her up for love and cuddles.
S.J. was a happy little guy and just enjoyed the dogs and playing with everyone.
The day was overcast and it was only slightly windy.  The temps were about 56 degrees so it wasn't bad for early April on the beach here.  We all enjoyed ourselves.
Kyle took S.J. for a little walk...but looking at the photo, it looks like S.J. is taking Kyle on a walk...LOL
It was a great time on the beach!!
When we finished with Nye Beach, we cleaned up and decided to head over to the boardwalk on Yaquina Bay.  Before we left, I opened a package of fruit snacks and opened my hand to offer one to S.J. Instead of taking one, he scooped up the entire pack and shoved every one of them in his mouth...at once!  What a character!  Also, to note, more things to do at Nye Beach is to visit the Yaquina Head Lighthouse on the point.
Over at Nye's beach is a lot of fun things to do and shopping like the Art Gallery, shops and restaurants.  There is also a restroom and lots of parking.
Soon we were over to the other side of Newport at the wharf on Bay Blvd.  Once we got there, the first thing we did was go over and look at the Sea Lions.  They were SO LOUD!  Plus, they were all over the rock in marine mammal protected Yaquina Bay!
The Yaquina Bay was quiet today (except for the barking of sea lions) but the views were wonderful with the bridge, pine tree laden hills and the soft gentle flow of the water and fleet of boats!
Once we finished with the Sea Lions, we crossed the street for ice-cream and then walked down the boardwalk looking in shops.  Scott and I spied a cute shop called BowwowMeow and we bought the girls some doggie treats and bones.
After that Kyle and I decided we had to have some clam chowder.  Everyone already had lunch at a place called "The Chowder Bowl" at Nye Beach before we arrived, but he wanted to see if "Mo's Seafood and Chowder" was better so we got a table.  Interestingly, we learned that Wednesday afternoon is their busiest day of the week.  Go figure.  We decided to get the Clam Chowder in a Sourdough Bread Bowl while everyone else walked the boardwalk.  Then, Nancy came in and decided she wanted to try a cup so we three sat at a window table overlooking the street and ate our chowder, which was so hot, I ended up getting a big water blister on the roof of my mouth, BUT, it was delicious!  Not as good as in Seattle, but still quite tasty.  I took a photo of the bowl, but it was missing from my camera roll, so no picture.  😕 But, I did get a picture of the whale mural across the street from where we sat.  😊  There are mural all over this part of Newport.  Kyle said Mo's Chowder was much better than the Chowder Bowl, FYI. (**Note: Kyle got a picture of the bowl -- yeah!)
Then, we crossed the street walking the rest of the boardwalk and checked in at a fish shop.  Notice everyone's bags?  All from candy shops!
All too soon, we realized it was about 5:00 p.m. and we still had to drive back to Springfield.  So, we took a few last photos of the area, said our goodbyes and told Kyle, Alyse and the kids and we'd see them next week in Emmett.  It was a fun day and Newport has a lot of fun things to offer.  Treat yourself to a day there to include Ripley's Believe It or Not, UnderSea Gardens, Oregon Coast Aquarium, Seal Dock, Marine Discovery Tours, Wax Works and a whole lot of fun shops and restaurants.
