Fredericksburg VA/Washington DC South Holiday KOA

We left North Carolina on July 1st and only went as far as Fredericksburg, Virginia to the Fredericksburg VA/Washington DC South Holiday KOA.  We needed to see three locations in this area and thought the best thing would be to stop here and go to one location that night and then the following morning hit the two others as we drove to Maryland.  This KOA had one of the biggest stores I've seen!  There was so much stuff, I was in stimulus overload.
The Fredericksburg KOA was pretty nice and tucked away in a forested area in the country.
The nightly rate was $89.99 because it was around the 4th of July but with our KOA discount we paid $86.99 that night.  Regularly, the price is $79.99 per night.  Pretty expensive BUT we did have a premium site with a patio, patio furniture with an umbrella and a nice, level pull through by the lake.  It was also conveniently located to the office, pool and other amenities.

Speaking of amenities, those were:

  • Gravel Pad with Full Hookups
  • Mostly Pull-thu sites
  • Some Back-In sites
  • 4 Deluxe Cabins
  • 9 Regular Cabins
  • Gem Mine for the Kids (but the water was off so I don't know if it worked)
  • Tetherball
  • Kids Playground
  • Club House
  • Camp Sotre
  • Horseshoes
  • Catch & Release Fishing
  • Boats to Rent
  • Bike Path
  • Close to State Park and National Parks/Monuments
  • Pool
  • Fire Pit
  • Picnic Table
  • Laundry
  • Bath House
  • Cable TV

Our site was on the sunny side, so I was NOT happy about that.  If I go to a campground, I hope to have a shady, forested site.  I was hoping we would land site 18 because it was also a premium site with trees galore, but we got site 92.  Site 92 was closer to the amenities, so for one night, it was ok, but I wasn't thrilled with the location.  What's ironic is the lady said, "This is the only site we have left and it's in the sun".  But, no one camped that night at site 18.  Hmmmm.
We were in site 92

Here are a few photos so you can look around.  This building was the meeting room and laundry area.
Our rig is peeking through
It was a nice touch to have a change machine!
Here's the pool area.
The restrooms and showers were in the back of the office building by our rig.  The restrooms were communal, but the showers were independent doors leading from the hallway.
And, this is some of the sites of the campground.
We gave his park a 4/5 rating.   There was a lot to offer and the place was clean, but in the section of the area we were located was hot and miserable with a pond of mosquitoes.  If they had given me site 18, my rating may have been better.  All-in-all, it wasn't bad.  I would still recommend it if you are going to be in the area and need a decent place to stay.
