Tall Timbers Campground - Port Clinton, Ohio

On the 14th of July, we left our wonderful campground at Crystal Rock and drove the 15 minutes over to our new location at Tall Timbers Campground which is one of six locations as a part of Camp Lake Erie.  There are 400 RV sites at this location and I almost felt like I was in a small town!  This place was huge.  Interestingly, we got there during "Redneck Weekend" and boy, was it packed.  We had the last site not taken and it was tight.
We were assigned site 101, one of only 7 sites with 50 amp service and only 9 pull-ins.  This map has been updated...it shows us in the yellow with 30 amp, but we really had 50 amp.  Sites 99, 101, 103 and 93B were upgraded.  The rest of the park in on 30 amp.  There are also 4 rental sites (orange and 258 was moved as rental).  They also have tent sites by the pond where people can swim and fish.
Amenities at this location included:

  • 30/50 amp gravel sites
  • Water and Electric - NO sewer!
  • Wifi
  • Dump station (I hope so with no sewer)
  • Shade Trees
  • Grass
  • Picnic Table
  • Fire Pit
  • Pet Area
  • Bath House
  • Boat Storage
  • 2 National Monuments close by
  • State Park access
  • Bike path
  • Pond beach access
  • Fishing
  • Movie area on Saturday nights
  • Sand Volleyball
  • Kids Playground
  • Club House / Shelter House
  • Camp Store
  • Basketball Court
  • Tetherball Court
  • Keycard Gate Security
  • Propane Station

There was no discount at this place and it cost $52 per night.  I thought it was pretty expensive for what you got and with no sewer, that made things a bit complicated when you leave the park because you have to wait in line to get your tank dumped.  Also, when we went to leave, the trees were so low that we could knock off our antennas and so I had to back out of this site, which didn't make me happy.  This place could use some improvements.  The other thing I didn't like is that the rigs are so close together that people congregate right next to your rig and it gets noisy as you can see here.  It was a good thing our neighbors were nice.
Here's some photos of the campground.  This is the entrance and security as well as the registration and camp store.
The Playground
This is all the golf carts parked by the pond aka swimming and fishing hole.  It's a huge park and I guess people bring their golf carts...they also had a DJ there!
This is the craft / shelter house.
And here's photos of the camping area.  They were packed in like sardines and I wonder how they even back their rigs in since the road was so narrow.  I will say, most people had weekend size rigs, so that probably helped.  If we were back in our 22 foot travel trailer I think it would have fit nicely.
These site by the pond were wider.
This is the bath house by us.  It was in desperate need of an upgrade.  It fit well into the redneck theme.  The doors didn't even shut and the showers were tiny.
Here is our rig and the grassy area by us which was used as movie night.  The shed was right by us and I had to be careful when I backed out because lots of trucks were parked there.
The permanent resident places had beautiful outdoor decorations, greenery and flowers.  This is site 91A just below us.
Overall, we gave this place a 2 star rating.  The cost was outrageous.  The spaces were really tight.  There was NO sewer and it was so full of people with cars, trucks and golf carts coming and going constantly.  I had to back out of a pull through spot.  I'm sure the people there love the place, it just wasn't our cup of tea.
