Dutch Treat Campground in Zeeland, Michigan

We left Indiana on schedule and headed to Holland, Michigan on Thursday, July 19th.  I was really excited to come to Holland.  My great-grandmother was born here and I wanted to find out if she had a twin brother, Demetrius or not and search the county records.  The first thing we did, though was get our site at the Dutch Treat Campground.
Dutch Treat Campground is actually located adjacent to Holland in the town of Zeeland, Michigan.  The charge is $45 per night and we paid $114 for three nights.  They did have a 10% discount from AAA or Good Sam.
We were assigned site 19 and it was a really great spot because we were on the end and across from the bath house, laundry and pool area and dump station and trash bins (although the trash bins were so close that we almost couldn't get out).  Almost in the middle of the campground.  The interesting part of this campground is that while the map looks like you back into the sites, there is actually an "alley" of sorts that you enter and then pull into your site.  Very different system than we've seen before.  This campground was adequate but all the grass was dead, making it a bit messy when the dogs came in and out of the rig even though the air had moisture and rain in it.
Amenities in this place included:

  • Pull thru
  • Back In
  • Tent area
  • Grass and Gravel pads
  • Full Hook Ups
  • Dump Station
  • Fire Pit
  • Pool
  • Bath House
  • Close to 2 National Monuments
  • State Park
  • Close to Boating Activities in Holland
  • Kids Playground
  • Game Center / Club House
  • Camp Store
  • Fishing
  • Pond
  • Paddle Boat Rental

Some sites were shaded by trees.  Ours was not, but we had a corner for easy in and out.  The weather was bad while we were here and it rained nearly every day, which was disappointing as I had a lot of places I really wanted to go and see.  Here are a few more photos of the place.
Overall, we gave this place a 3.  The grass was mainly dead if you didn't have a shade tree, which means they just let nature water the place.  We couldn't use the fire pit because of the dead grass.  It seemed a bit old and run down, but the sites were adequate except that you shared some utilities with the next neighbor and they parked so close you could hear inside their rig.  The pool, laundry and bath house was decent, so it's an average campground.
